Sweet Dreams – Alberto Vargas
Originally published as a gatefold in the November 1940 issue of Esquire, Sweet Dreams is one of Alberto Vargas's works from his celebrated run with the magazine. The original painting resides in the permanent collection of the Spencer Museum of Art at the University of Kansas.
This limited edition lithograph was published in 1989 in collaboration with the Hearst Corporation, Esquire, and the Estate of Vargas.
The work captures everything that defined the Vargas style at its peak — luminous skin tones, impossibly delicate sheer fabric, and that signature sense of intimacy. The soft blue drapery and warm tonal palette showcase the airbrush mastery that made Vargas the most sought-after illustrator of his era.
