There’s nothing more timeless than the sensual beauty of a woman lying under the warmth of the sun, lost in reverie. In Day Dreaming, Alberto Vargas captures this ethereal moment — a platinum blonde model running her fingers through her hair, embodying a vision of heavenly thoughts and effortless allure.

This 19''x26'' lithograph is modeled by the beautiful Jeanne Dean, one of Vargas' most memorable muses of the era. Her natural elegance and easy charm made her a perfect fit for Vargas’ idealized yet intimate portrayals of feminine grace.

The swimsuit depicted here — sleek, modern, and daring for its time — is a perfect example of his instinct for progressive, forward-looking style, years ahead of mainstream trends.

This image was originally published as part of the Esquire Calendar for October 1943, during the height of Vargas' celebrated World War II-era work. The Lithograph was printed in the early 1990s. Today, the original painting resides in the permanent collection of the Julia Spencer Museum of Art at the University of Kansas.

Printed on luminous opalesque paper, this lithograph maintains a rare brilliance and depth, replicating the delicate luminosity of Vargas’ watercolor originals.

This print bears the distinctive "Varga" signature — not "Vargas" — marking a specific and important chapter in Alberto Vargas’ career. During his collaboration with Esquire magazine, contractual obligations required him to sign his work “Varga,” a name that would come to symbolize the quintessential wartime pin-up.
